During our third year at Eartsup, we collaborated with the circus school Balthaz-ar, where we put together a trailer to present one of their student : Valeria ZAVATTONI.
We wanted to make a trailer inspired by the art direction of the ending "LOST IN PARADISE" from the anime JUJUTSU KAISEN, to have an energetic and dynamistic feel. For the character design and animation style, we opted for something simple and interesting to watch, I was inspired by Ryan WOODWARD and his film "Thought of you". Along with these references, we integrated plants and flowers which was the wish of our client and collaborator, Valeria.
During the project, we met with Valeria where we recorded her, and thus we decided to use rotoscoping for the animation, we wanted her performance to be faithfully translated in animation.
For this trailer, I participated in the storyboard process, in the visual concept, in the character design and most importantly animation. I was the key animator, colorist and coordinator for the whole trailer and sole animator for the FX.
To work smoothly with the other animator, I wrote a documentation on how to animate in Clip Studio Paint, and to assure the cohesion of the animation.
Trailer
Early concept that defined the trajectory and animation style of the trailer, directly inspired by Ryan WOODWARD and his film "Thought of you"
We wanted a sketchy feel and simple style that wouldn't clash with the rudimentary background.
Rough to Final animation, first finished scene.
This scene became the target render of our project and our main reference.

The many plants FX I animated and used to create the "forest" that we see in the middle of the trailer.
